President Trump’s claim that during his campaign President Obama had Trump Tower wiretapped has raised two very important question:
- Has the “liberal media” outed itself as untrustworthy?
- Did the New York Times finally admit that it is “fake news”?
Following the claim of wiretapping many questions were raised by the mainstream media as to proof behind the allegation. Via WorldNetDaily.com:
Jonathan Karl, ABC News: “Has the White House come up with any evidence whatsoever to prove that allegation”
Jonathan Karl, ABC News: “Do you believe that President Obama ordered something like that?”
Jim Acosta, CNN: “Where’s the evidence? Where’s the proof that President Obama bugged President Trump?”
Jim Acosta, CNN: “Since yesterday, has there been any new proof? Any new evidence?”
Jim Acosta, CNN: “Will the president withdraw the accusation?”
Jim Acosta, CNN: “No regrets from him about raising this accusation?”
Hallie Jackson, NBC News: “Why would the president want Congress to investigate information he already has?”
There is already proof of the wiretap. Outlets such as Gateway Pundit, Zero Hedge, Breitbart, and Rush Limbaugh point to the above New York Times headline as proof that not only is President Trump correct in his assertion, but also that the “liberal media” ignore any news which does not fit their political agenda.
Except, no. And returning to the questions above, no and no.
The New York Times article makes no mention of Trump Tower, wiretaps on phones, any investigation into Donald Trump himself, or anything else claimed by the President and those news outlets.
Here is the relevant quote from the article:
American law enforcement and intelligence agencies are examining intercepted communications and financial transactions as part of a broad investigation into possible links between Russian officials and associates of President-elect Donald J. Trump…It is not clear whether the intercepted communications had anything to do with Mr. Trump’s campaign, or Mr. Trump himself.
It is possible that the President’s claims ultimately prove true. Maybe Trump Tower was under electronic surveillance. If Trump’s associates were under investigation this would make sense. Logically, this could have included the phones. Donald Trump could have been the ultimate target of this surveillance. This would make sense if the wiretaps were politically-motivated.
But as of yet there is no proof any of these things are true. Certainly not in the New York Times article so many are referencing.
If you want to use a news story as evidence, go beyond the headline.
