To review the news from the White House on Wednesday, February 22, 2017:

First, and the big announcement of the day from the White House, the revocation by the Trump administration of President Obama’s guidance to public schools on bathroom use by transgender students. No longer will schools who do not allow transgender students to use the bathroom of their choice face potential federal punishment. According to President Trump, it is a state, not federal issue.

Second, there was apparently disagreement in the Trump Cabinet over this decision. Attorney General Jeff Sessions and President Trump were in favor of rescinding the guidance but needed Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos to sign off, of which she was reportedly initially wary.

Third, there is also disagreement in the Trump administration as to the viability of the European Union as an institution and the relationship of the United States to that institution moving forward. White House chief strategist Stephen Bannon does not view the EU favorably, and said so to a German diplomat, while Vice President Mike Pence later pledged the “steadfast and enduring” commitment of the United States to the EU.

Fourth, former Donald Trump campaign staffers told Politico that they attempted to handle him and control his mood and public outbursts by feeding him news which was friendly and complimentary to him and his campaign.

Finally, the war with the media which the President created is not going his way. A new poll from Quinnipiac University finds that while only a slim majority of registered voters polled trust the mainstream media, less trust the President. Furthermore, President Trump’s job approval rating continues to slip.

All shocking news. Shocking!!!! Three “!!!”. Wait. No, no. What’s the right word? Not “shocking”. Unforeseen? No. Unexpected? No. Astonishing? Closer, but no. Hmmm.

That’s right…predictable. Foreseeable. Expected. Likely. Trump presidency.
