For the majority of his campaign a key component and policy proposal of Donald Trump was his denouncement of potential terrorists entering the United States and murdering Americans. Much of his attacks were aimed at Muslims. This included a consistent call to ban Muslims from entering the United States altogether. During the second presidential debate a Muslim-American voter asked Donald Trump a question regarding this anti-Muslim rhetoric:
“There are 3.3 million Muslims in the United States, and I’m one of them … With Islamophobia on the rise, how will you help people like me deal with the consequences of being labeled a threat to the country after the election is over?”
Instead of following through on his past pledge to soften his stance on immigration and rescind his call for a Muslim ban in order to appeal to a broader spectrum of voters as long-desired by Republican leaders, Donald Trump simply repeated his stump speeches.
“You’re right about Islamophobia, and that’s a shame. One thing we have to do is we have to make sure that because there is a problem, whether we like it or not — and we could be very politically correct — but whether we like it or not, there is a problem and we have to be sure that Muslims come in and report when they see something going on. When they see hatred going on, they have to report it.
“In San Bernardino, many people saw the bombs all over the apartment of the two people that killed 14 and wounded many, many people. Horribly wounded. Never be the same. Muslims have to report the problems when they see them. And you know, there’s always a reason for everything. If they don’t do that, it’s a very difficult situation for our country because you look at Orlando and you look at San Bernardino and the World Trade Center. Look at Paris. The horrible — these are radical Islamic terrorists.”
Islamophobia is the fault of Muslims. Not reporting terrorist attacks they know are going to happen causes white America to hate them, harass them and attack them just because of their religion. And it’s justified. To stop these horrible things from happening all Muslims have to do is report what they see.
It would appear Donald Trump’s answer has had an effect. Muslims across the country took his sentiments to heart. They are reporting.
As a result of Donald Trump’s staunch view on Islamophobia and the responsibility of Muslims to solve this problem, Muslims are reporting on their friends, their family, corporate interests, themselves, and even Donald Trump. They are also acting as responsible members of society in their everyday lives.
Donald Trump is truly making America great again.
