Game 1 of the Bears preseason was pretty much a disaster. Especially the offensive line which struggled all game across all units. Shortly after the game roster moves were made in recognition of this weakness. Other areas may be of more concern, however.
First, wide receiver. Eddie Royal is in the concussion protocol and has not practiced during the month of August. Marquess Wilson is hurt and out, again. Is Kevin White going to step up in his first year of NFL football? Is Marc Mariani or Daniel Braverman now the primary slot receiver?
Second, tight end. Zach Miller also suffered a concussion and only recently returned to practice. But he will be hurt again. Last season was Miller’s healthiest season in 5 years, but he still missed time. And there is nothing behind him.
Many hope and many believe John Fox will improve the Bears this season, as is his tradition in the second year of a job. But with depth still a major concern much of the hope for improvement may rest on team health. And so far hope is dwindling.
