Donald Trump plans on introducing an ideological test for Muslim immigrants and visitors to the United States. Not surprising given his views on immigration and on Muslims. Trump has been running a campaign based on American nationalism, nativism and populism.
But the very idea of America runs contrary to the notion that only “those who support our values” should gain admittance. For one, American values vary, they are not singular. Second, the Republican Party and/or Donald Trump do not hold a monopoly on American values. A group or individual does not define what are or are not “American values”.
If Trump’s approval ratings are to be believed he actually only shares the “values” of a small percentage of America.
