I don’t know what to think about the situation with Tommy La Stella. The Cubs optioned him to Triple-A because he still has options and they needed a roster spot. He’s been really good for the Cubs this year and would most likely be brought back up in September when MLB rosters expand. I would have also expected La Stella to be on the playoff roster. Now it’s all up in the air, and I really don’t know what to make of it. For La Stella’s sake I hope there is more going on than he simply doesn’t want to go to Triple-A. If there are personal reasons La Stella doesn’t want to go to Triple-A and not simply baseball reasons that’s probably worse for La Stella generally speaking but better for him in terms of his baseball future.
La Stella recently spoke to Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com and gave some insight to this situation, although not enough to really resolve it. And based on this interview Brett Taylor at Bleacher Nation wrote a good piece. Links below.
